Supplies and Materials

1) Camera: No point and shoots. Camera needs to be a 35mm or larger film camera with adjustable focus, aperture and shutter speeds.

2) Light Meter: Either built into the camera or hand held.

3) Developing tank and reels: One stainless steel or plastic tank which holds two rolls of film and two 35mm reels, also either stainless or plastic (to match tank). I cannot suggest strongly enough the you purchase Pro Reels. You will be happy you did.

4) Photo Thermometer: The type with an adjustable dial is best.

5) Film: We will talk about film as we progress. Start with 3 rolls of Kodak Tri-X Pan or Ilford HP5 Plus (both have an ISO of 400), and 3 rolls of Plus X or TMX (both have an ISO of 100) or Ilford 100 speed film. This is a black and white class. All film must be black and white. Do not use C-41 process black and white film at this time.

6)Printing Paper: Ilford Multigrade IV RC, 8 x 10 inch, glossy or pearl surface, medium weight 100 - 200 sheets.

7) Negative Storage Sleeves/Pages: Get archival pages, and a Pilot or Sharpie black marker.

8)Retouching Fluid and Brush: Spotone #3 fluid and a #00000 spotting brush.

9) Mat Board: 20 - 25 mat boards - 11 x 14 inch, white preferred.

10) Dry Mount Tissue: Seal Colormount or dry mount tissue made for RC photo papers.

11) Portfolio Case: To hold and present mounted 11 x 14 inch photos. These can be purchased or constructed or you may use Archival Boxes which are available at many photo stores.

12)Envelopes: To hand in assignments - (3, that would be three) 12 x 15 inch envelopes (the reusable kind).

13) Notebook: For class notes.

14) Textbook: ‘Photography’, by Barbara London and John Upton, Latest Edition. (Earlier editions are also acceptable). Try Powells.com for used copies.

15) Dodging tools: Either make or purchase them.

16) Kimwipes: Negative drying tissue.
